Tournament Conduct

Tournaments are a great way to compete and connect with others. At Lethbridge Tennis Club, we promote fair play, good sportsmanship, and professionalism on and off the court.

Tournament Rules & Guidelines

  1. Match Start Times: The time communicated to players is the official match start time. Each match includes a 10-minute warm-up period.
    • If a player arrives on court during the 10-minute warm-up, they may use the remaining time.
    • Arriving more than 10 minutes late results in a first set forfeit (6–0).
    • Arriving 15+ minutes late results in a full match default: 6–0, 6–0.
  2. Match Balls: Balls are provided for each match.
  3. Respect & Conduct: Athletes must show respect to courts, equipment, and others.
    • 1st offense (e.g., racket abuse or foul language): warning
    • 2nd offense: point penalty
    • 3rd offense: game penalty
    • Subsequent offenses: game penalties continue to apply

Enforced at the tournament director’s discretion, including interpretation of foul language.

  4. Line Calls: Players call lines on their own side. If uncertain, the ball is considered in.
  5. Disputes: In case of a disagreement over the score, players must revert to the last score both agree on. If no agreement can be reached:
    • Restart the game/set
    • Or request assistance from the tournament director
  6. Equipment: Players must bring all needed equipment on court. Leaving to retrieve equipment counts as a bathroom stoppage, unless agreed otherwise by opponent.
  7. Breaks & Changeovers:
    • Changeovers: 1 minute
    • Between sets: 2 minutes
    • Players may leave the court between sets if they return within 2 minutes or with opponent consent.
  8. Let & Replay Requests: If play is affected by a ball or distraction, the point must be stopped immediately to request a replay. Retroactive requests are not permitted.
  9. Conflicts: All disputes will be handled by the tournament director. Their decisions are final.
  10. Reporting Scores: The winner must report the final score directly to the tournament director immediately after the match.
